Some of you might remember David if you came to SHINE in Vegas—he was part of our Social Media panel and is such a high-energy guy and standout resource for online marketing. He has also interviewed me for his web TV show “The Rise to the Top”.
In Smarter, Faster, Cheaper, David’s really put it all out on the table in his unique, straight-shooting style. He not only shares his personal experience of how he grew his RISE web TV show viewers from 0 to 100,000 a month, in less than 2 years, but he also compiles everything he learned from interviewing more than 200 of “the world’s most creative entrepreneurs”.
I’m still working my way through it, but here are THREE takeaways that I love so far:
1. Social media has created a return to the “small town” way of doing business. People gravitate to do business with people they know and trust—like the dry cleaner around the corner who knows you only wear silk undies from La Perla (okay, that’s my own example, lol).
2. You don’t need bells and whistles to market effectively. I know this from experience—all you need to do is be YOUR AUTHENTIC self, and the people will come.
3. “Answers are overrated. Ask better questions” – that’s actually a quote from The “Nametag Guy” Scott Ginsberg, but it’s brilliant advice because it gets people involved in a 2-way conversation.
