Holidays are rife with tensions: cooking for dinner parties, sick kids, fighting the crowds at the mall, and many other stresses can make you feel more Scrooge than Santa. Ironically, the holidays are also the time you need to look your best night after night. When faced with the challenge of rising to every occasion, whether it’s a black-tie party, or a Christmas dinner with family, you may need a few remedies to cover up your holiday burnout.
Tired Eyes
Ideally, you should shoot for 8 hours of sleep a night. But, since it might not be possible, try Murad’s Lighten and Brighten Treatment — some of my friends swear by it. Apply a little of this magic wonder to your dark circles, and you may look as fresh-faced as a teenager. I also love
Lackluster Skin
I’m guessing your summer glow has long faded, and let’s also say you missed your usual appointment at the tanning salon. Embrace the fact that paler skin in winter is okay. Dullness, however, is not okay. I recently tried Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate and love it – enzymes smooth and brighten your skin. For a less expensive option, you have the good old Buf Puf from the drugstore.
Limp Hair
If you have the time to shampoo and dry, try this for extra volume. Rinse your hair in the shower, and then blow dry upside down until hair is damp. Take the top section of your hair and secure to the top of your head with a clip. After about 10-20 minutes, let your hair down and finish blow-drying with your head upside down. Result? High volume.
Desperately Seeking Manicure
If you plan on chatting up any guests at holiday parties, don’t neglect your nails. I’ve learned since I don’t often have time for professional manicures that short shiny nails can be a girl’s best friend. Just cut them short, shine them up with a 4-sided nail buff, and push back the cuticles to look neat and groomed.
Out of Control Eyebrows
If you just don’t have the time for waxing, plucking, or threading, then tame your brows with a simple brow pencil. Don’t have one? Substitute matte brown eye shadow. Not only does this trick fill in your brows, but it also helps them look shaped and sexy.
