I was sad to hear personal development pioneer Jim Rohn died on Saturday. He was one of the original and most influential thinkers in his field – I loved to hear him speak and read many of his books when I was starting out. His quote “you are the average of the 5 people you hang around the most” changed my life and it is an idea that I share with my students to this day.
This photo was taken of me with Jim back in in 2004 I believe when I attended one of his seminars in Orange County. He was such a nice man! He will be greatly missed but his work will live on and continue to change lives. Here are a few more of his most memorable quotes (from www.jimrohn.com):
Skills: “Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems; wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges; wish for more wisdom.”
Growth: “Don’t join an easy crowd. You won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform and achieve are high.”
Change: “We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.”
Activity: “The few who do are the envy of the many who watch.”
Success: “Success is what you attract by the person you become.”
