Ask Ali: “I’m stuck on ideas for my blog. Can you help?”

Question: “Lots of companies seem to use blogs these days, in a business such as mine. It’s hard to figure out what to put in such a publication… giving away recipes isn’t an option!”

– Gabrielle Murphy, Sprinkles Cake House, Surrey B.C., Canada

Ali’s answer: Hi Gabrielle. Thanks for your question! You’d be surprised how many different angles you can generate for your blog that won’t give away your golden egg, but will still offer HIGH value to your readers. Remember, the purpose of your blog is to showcase your knowledge and expertise and stay connected with your readers—and constantly churning out recipes might not be the best way to achieve those two objectives.

"The Best Business I Know…"

Years ago, I decided to sell my first little e-book. Humble as it was, I remember being so nervous about posting it for sale online that I thought my heart would beat out of my chest!
But my fears quickly dissipated when I saw order after order stack up in my email inbox, while I was out at the gym. And most of you know the rest… I grew that great little income stream of an extra few hundred dollars a month into what is today a multimillion-dollar business.
Right now, women and men of all ages, businesses, and backgrounds are making money online with info-publishing (also called “information marketing” or “info-products”).

Ask Ali: "How Do You Establish Credibility When You Are Just Starting Out? "

Question: Hi Ali, how do you establish credibility when you are just starting out?
– Jeanette Henderson, Daniel Island, S.C.
Ali’s answer: That’s a great question, Jeanette! There are many ways to show your credibility, but let’s start with what worked best for me, which was becoming a “publisher”. Or at least I was perceived as one. Let me explain…
When I first started my business, an ezine (or e-newsletter) was the first thing I did that really helped me get noticed.

Repetitive habits and unchanging patterns make us feel comfortable, and so we tend to stick to doing them. Being comfortable is fine—but, staying within your comfort zone too long can lead to lethargy and apathy. A change can be as effective as rest when it comes to rejuvenating yourself and increasing productivity levels.

"Two entrepreneurs walk into a bar…"

A few weeks ago I attended a cocktail party in Orange County with a date, and… as it usually happens at these things… the entrepreneurs in the room somehow magnetically gravitated toward each other and started talking.
(I am not sure if it’s because we find each other more interesting than other folks, or maybe it’s because sometimes we have a hard time talking to other people who “don’t get it?” ;))
Anywho, I became fascinated with a man who was sharing how he had started a large insurance company focusing on a specific market.

"Faith and Family… or Financial Independence?…"

Many of us grow up thinking there has to be one or the other
You make a lot of money and lose your soul OR you stay true to your faith and family.
One of the reasons why we think this way is much of our world is stuck in the old paradigm of thinking. Especially when it comes to money and business.
Consider this… the “old” model for business was a masculine model. Business and life were separated. Work and home were clearly divided. (Just watch a few episodes of Mad Men and you’ll get this quite clearly.)
