‘The Power of Subtraction’ — Glambition® Radio Episode 302 with Ali Brown

Today I want to share what I both witnessed and experienced at my recent event ICONIC: The Revolution, and it has to do with the powerful concept of SUBTRACTION.

In business we worship nonstop expansion, adding on, increasing volume, and stacking layers of complexity onto what we do. Today instead, I invite you to honor the subtraction, or *taking away*, and study its results. This will actually help move your forward in the right way, faster than your alternatives. It has a lot to do with energy. And I explain it all on this episode of #GlambitionRadio.

When Shonda Rhimes came to AZ

I’m about to head out for a personal retreat a few hours away in the Sonoran Desert… to dream ‘what’s next’. And it got me thinking about Shonda Rhimes.

Why?

Shonda achieved almost everything a TV producer could hope for during her long run at ABC.

She evolved into not only one of the most prolific writer-producers in the business, but also a mogul, as the founder and head of her Shondaland production company.

ABC filled its entire Thursday night lineup with her shows — from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to ‘Scandal’ and ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ — but she was… restless.

‘The Big Tear Down’ — Glambition® Radio Episode 300 with Ali Brown

At our recent meeting for The Trust, a clear theme emerged just during our first session. There is currently a simultaneous occurrence for all of us, consisting of huge new opportunities along with huge demand to LET GO of something else in order to move in the right direction. And along with all this, feeling some crazy damn chaos on the perimeter!

But is all that chaos around us right now actually happening TO us? Or… FOR us? Think of a brilliant new home you’ve been dreaming of for years, but right now you’re in the middle of the old teardown.

Checking in with you…

I know it’s been a bit since I dropped you an update, and there’s so much happening, that it was definitely time!

1. WOW WHAT A MEETING!

First off, we’re still on a high from our Official Fall Meeting of The Trust: my modern, premier network for 7+8-figure women entrepreneurs. And I’m thrilled that so many of the members joined us in person last week. In fact it was our largest member gathering yet! (You can see more pics and stories from our event on the Instagram accounts for both myself and The Trust.)

We ALL left feeling a sense of renewal and clarity to bring our biggest visions to life, and I’m excited to see how this group continues to evolve.

‘When Women Lead’ with Julia Boorstin— Glambition® Radio Episode 299 with Ali Brown

With over two decades as a TV reporter and creator of CNBC’s ‘Disruptor 50’ franchise, Julia Boorstin has interviewed and studied thousands of business leaders. And while witnessing the dearth of women in positions of leadership, she committed to the ideal that true gender equity shouldn’t be a pipe dream.

In her newly released book, ‘WHEN WOMEN LEAD: What They Achieve, Why They Succeed, and How We Can Learn from Them’, Julia shares her groundbreaking and ‘deeply reported’ narrative work from interviewing thousands of female business leaders and executives. These interviews reveal the counterintuitive, against-all-odds approaches of women running the world’s most innovative and successful companies—and what we can learn from them.

‘The False Gods of Your Business’— Glambition® Radio Episode 298 with Ali Brown

Do you remember the Bible story about the golden calf? It’s basically revealing of human nature and our tendency to stray away from what’s true in the name of what’s new, sexier, faster, or ‘here right now’. This is one of my favorite stories that we can also relate to in business. Because we have all created – or have even been told to workshop  – our own golden calves… or ‘false gods’.

For the first time ever, in this episode of #GlambitionRadio, I break down 7 false gods I see most every day in the businesses I have worked with.

‘How To Be Loving’ with Danielle Laporte — Glambition® Radio Episode 297 with Ali Brown

WOW… I was thrilled to have Danielle Laporte back on #GlambitionRadio to talk about… LOVE. Not love as in loving another person in particular, but a concept much greater, and the theme of her new book ‘How To Be Loving…when your heart is breaking open and the world is waking up.’

And, what does this have to do with ourselves as business owners and leaders? More than you may realize, in today’s times. Danielle spent the past few years radically simplifying her life, doing the deep work, and determining that love is not a feeling, but a virtue, and how we learn about love and express it is incredibly personal.

LAST CALL for my fall event…

This is a courtesy alert, that as of later this week, it’s suddenly September.

What? Yes. 😳

And, may I call you out?

The year is only a few months from being over.

You know, this year!!

The one you promised to do something different.

Maybe you have a big idea that’s been percolating that you haven’t had time for. Or you have been craving time and stimulation to work on some new ideas for your existing business. Or… you’re having an existential crisis with your current business model — no shame we’ve all been there.

‘The Power of Copywriting’ with Sara Anna Powers— Glambition® Radio Episode 296 with Ali Brown

I’ve always been in love with writing, since I was little. Using words in the right way to convey your point to the fullest. Finding just the right word that can replace a string of five others. Expressing emotions that are hard to convey. And more.

But I never knew what copywriting actually was until my mid-20s, when I landed a job at a midtown boutique ad agency. It blended my love of both words and psychology. I immediately became enamored with the idea of doing that for a living – could it really be possible?
