“Safe is the New Risk”—Glambition Radio Episode #10 with Ali Brown

They didn’t overthink things, or think “who am I to be doing this?” or fret and flop around worrying about how they would fit this in their life, how they’d do this along with motherhood, etc.

Do you feel guilty for wanting more?
It’s interesting to me that I hear from so many women who are ready to “make a leap”, but there’s often an element of guilt that accompanies it. Even if that leap is for their highest good, and they know it will dramatically benefit their family and causes they care about.
Maybe it’s because we grow up being taught to be happy with what we have… to not ask for much or make a fuss.
And of course I agree we should always be grateful. (I myself like to end every day thanking God for my blessings.)
But I’m talking about something different.

In 2002, I had been married two years to my first husband, whom I’ll just call “G”. While we each had our own reasonably successful business ventures (I was just really starting to ramp up my online business), we were still struggling financially, living in a rented one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles, and carrying more than $30,000 in credit card debts. It was surely causing a lot of stress in our marriage.
A friend of ours invited us to attend a “money mindset” seminar that sounded perfect for our situation. Although the event was free, it was still a big decision to take three days off, drive down to San Diego, and pay for a hotel.
