Angela Jia Kim already had a successful career as a concert pianist when her passion for creating organic lotions in her kitchen at home turned into a full-time business. On this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, Angela tells the story of how she became an “accidental entrepreneur”, and why today she’s focusing on helping women entrepreneurs “Savor the Success”.
Breaking out in a rash changed Angela’s life. One night just before she was about to go on stage, Angela suffered an allergic reaction to a body lotion. After the performance, she discovered the lotion contained over 50 chemicals. Determined to create a chemical and preservative-free skin cream for herself, she experimented with over 1,000 formulas in her kitchen at home before she produced the perfect organic lotion. It was an instant hit with her friends, who encouraged her to start selling the organic cream. A website brought her customers, and soon spas and hotels were buying her products. And an “accidental entrepreneur” was born.

Angela credits her career as a classically trained pianist as the ‘perfect playground’ for a future entrepreneur. Performing as a solo artist, facing performance anxiety, the discipline of practicing the piano every day for 8-13 hours, and learning how to set and fail through goals were experiences that mirrored the journey she took from small-business owner to the successful founder and CEO of the award-winning Om Aroma & Co., organic boutique Savor Spa in New York City, and her women’s entrepreneur network, “Savor the Success”.
During our conversation, Angela and I bonded over what she calls “the gorgeous chaos” of balancing a busy career and motherhood. We also discussed the importance of “date nights” with our husbands, and why we think enjoying success is just as important as earning it.
On this episode of Glambition Radio you’ll find out what made Angela give up a successful career to follow her passion for mixing lotions and potions, how she learned to create what she wanted in life, and why she created an entrepreneurs network to help women celebrate and “Savor the Success”.
