Taryn Rose Glambition RadioTaryn Rose created one of today’s most successful and highly coveted brands in footwear. An orthopedic surgeon turned shoe designer, her story takes us behind the scenes for a realistic look at what it really takes to be a successful entrepreneur. And she’s all ours on today’s new Glambition Radio episode.
Taryn’s from Vietnam, and at just 7-years-old, she fled the country with her family to escape the war. Her dad became a successful doctor in America, and Taryn followed in his footsteps. (You’ll hear the whole story.)
As an orthopedic surgeon, she witnessed the serious foot problems women were having caused by fashionable footwear. Plus, her own feet were killing her. (Working 80 hours a week in heels will do that to you!)
So with very little business experience but A LOT of gumption, Taryn pounded miles of pavement (in heels!) and started her shoe business out of her garage.
$40 million later, she was the darling of the shoe industry… on the front page of magazines and schmoozing with Oprah!
And then she SOLD her company. Taryn’s explanation of WHY she did it is so honest and authentic, you have to hear her describe it in the interview. It’s the first time she’s ever talked about it publicly. And I’m honored she chose to share her story on Glambition Radio.
Here are Taryn’s top three tips for entrepreneurs just starting out:
Tip #1: Leap into what you love
“Just jump off the ledge, and remember that the view is always better at the edge. As scary as it is, it’s actually really exciting too. But make sure that what you’re jumping off for is something that you actually love.”
Tip #2: Ask for help
“I find that when I ask for help, people do come. It’s a great feeling. You’re going to be scared that someone is too busy, but there are lots of people out there to reach out to. Just remember, you are not alone… whether you are succeeding or on the brink of disaster.”
Tip #3: Take risks
“I always remind entrepreneurs that if you haven’t had the experience of barely being able to make payroll, you probably aren’t taking enough risks. Don’t beat yourself up for that because it happens to a lot of people.”
I’m also really excited about Taryn’s next big project, called DRESR, which she talks about so passionately in the interview.
