And that’s exactly what Jessica Scorpio did by founding her company Getaround, designed to make car-sharing an easily accessible transportation option for all. Not only would this idea make it easy to rent someone else’s car at a great price when you needed it, but you could also make money renting out your own car. It’s like AirBnB – but for cars. (And it’s all made simple with their proprietary technology and easy app.) Hear Jessica’s inspiring story on this week’s Glambition Radio.
Jessica first came up with the idea for Getaround when she had the exceptional opportunity to attend Singularity University, a special graduate program featuring guest teachers like Larry Page from Google. She partnered with two classmates to develop the idea of impacting a billion people around the world with a new transportation option.
And since Jessica started Getaround, she’s served as a founding member of the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum, earned a place on Huffington Post’s, Fortune’s and CEOWorld’s top female entrepreneur lists, and has been named one of GE’s Ecoimagination Top Sustainable Innovators. (Not bad for a gal who’s only 28. Holy crap.)

Getaround is revolutionizing the transportation industry’s business model. Figuring a billion cars sit idle 23 hours a day, the plan was to turn most of the cars in the world into a shared and profitable asset rather than an expensive and depreciating drain on each car owner’s wallet. Jessica and her partners wanted to make it easy for people to rent out and share their cars at an affordable price with their neighbors. The biggest challenge was to make the idea of sharing a car appealing. In our interview, Jessica told me how Getaround became so appealing that some of their community renters are bringing in an extra $10k a year.
